• Science 6th - 8th

  • Goals of The Science Program Grades 6 - 8
The science program shall include, but not be limited to, the following elements:
    • Active inquiry through hands-on experiments that lead to critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills
    • Interdisciplinary connections
    • Appropriate and equitable emphasis on life, earth, physical science and engineering concepts and processes
    • Appreciation for science and the natural environment
    • Logical and creative expression – through writing, speaking, inventing, and art forms
    • Use of technology as an application of scientific principles
    • Interpretation of concepts through reading, visual displays, media, technology, and investigations

The integration of STEAMtrax an innovative curriculum that integrates engineering and 3D printing technology with core academic knowledge in science, math, language arts, social studies, and art is an intragal part of the science curriculum in grades 6 - 8.   In the true spirit of the Framework for 21st Century Learning skills, students are engaged in relevant learning scenarios that encourage the essential skills of problem solving, collaboration, communication, clear and critical thinking as well as developing core academic knowledge. Each lesson imbeds 3D design, printing and scanning technology as an integral part of the STEAMtrax Engineering Process.

    STEAMtrax curriculum modules are:

    • Problem–based, thematic storylines make learning relevant and fun
    • Hands-on, constructivist learning stations to clarify science concepts
    • Integration of 3D design, printing, and scanning built into each module
    • Engineering Project Design Process encourages critical thinking
